22nd original, bilingual play is based in Puerto Rican oral and documented history. Inspired by the life of Luisa Capetillo, this historical fiction honors early 20th century female union leaders who fought for the rights of women and poor agricultural workers.Set in the mid 1970s and circa 1918, our annual mainstage production will combine original live music, dance, community theater, and Cocobalé -- STICKS & MACHETE FIGHTING -- to bring history to life and honor unsung heroes!

Two mainstage performances, December 14 & 15, 2024
Announcing auditions for roles in our original play featuring a multi-ethnic cast -- adults of all ages! Actors must reside in Austin or surrounding areas.
Roles of multi-ethnic cast include adults of any ethnicity:
* Labor Union Leader (Female)
* Rich Hacendados
* Tobacco Factory Workers (mostly female)
* Police, Supervisor, Mobs* Fighting artists (sticks and machetes)Great volunteer opportunity!
Barter includes:
- Professional Stage Combat training - sticks and machetes - by fighting master Toby Minor (TX State U).
- Authentic training in Boricua folkloric dance and song
Community Theatre rehearsals will meet Wednesdays, 6-9:30pm, starting September 11, 2024. Two weeks before production, additional rehearsals will fold actors, dancers, musicians, and fighters together into one exciting musical!
Fight Training will include professional workshops on stage combat on selected Saturdays.
Knowledge of Spanish a plus, but not required.

If selected to audition - Please bring one 2-minute monologue, dramatic or comedic (suitable for all ages) for your in-person audition in front of our artistic community.
