Audition materials need not be for young audiences.
Actor pay is $450 per week plus a monthly parking stipend. Understudy/standbys receive additional compensation; amount dependent on roles covered. Because Magik serves schools and families, rehearsals and most performances are held during daytime hours.
Magik is a fully vaccinated company; all incoming employees are expected to provide proof of vaccination.

We acknowledge that many roles we list fall on the cisgender binary, but invite transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary performers to read for the roles they most identify with.

SYNOPSIS
Lyric, a second-grader experiencing reading difficulties, finds an unexpected teacher in Mr. Hartley, the school janitor. Through the help of his made-from-junk robots, Mr. Hartley mentors Lyric, fostering her confidence and equipping her with the tools needed to overcome her reading challenges.
With catchy melodies and a folk guitar score, Lyric & the Keys is a new musical celebrating what it means for young people to believe in themselves enough to do anything - even learn to read! The key has always been inside!

To play 8, in second grade; imaginative, but struggles with confidence at school; ability to play guitar a plus

Janitor at Lyric’s school; friendly, with a keen eye for ways to help others; finds creative ways to repurpose discarded items

**Touring productions will include occasional overnight trips outside of Bexar county, for which hotel and per diem are included. Touring actors must have a clean driving record and be comfortable driving a 15 passenger van. Actors must be able to lift 25 pounds and will load/unload the set as part of their duties.
SYNOPSIS
At its heart, Eddie & Vinnie is a buddy comedy about Eddie, a young boy with dyslexia, and his best friend/trusty sidekick, a quick-witted gecko named Vinnie. Eddie struggles with his schoolwork and faces the possibility of going to summer school if he can’t get his grades up. In a last-ditch effort to get on the honor roll, Eddie teams up with the overly helpful new girl in class to write their end-of-year report. It seems like Vinnie is always there to distract him or, is he really challenging him to lean into his uniquely beautiful mind?

SYNOPSIS
Based on the inspiring true story of Tomás Rivera and the beloved book by Pat Mora, Tomás and the Library Lady is a celebration of stories, reading, and imagination. Tomás, a native Texan born in Crystal City and the son of migrant farm workers, meets a kind librarian who introduces him to the transformative power of books. This is the story of author and educator Tomás Rivera, who became the first minority Chancellor in the University of California system.
NOTE: As this is a bi-lingual show (Spanish/English), performers with ability to speak both languages preferred.

SYNOPSIS
A young child awakens Christmas morning to discover a Velveteen Rabbit among their gifts. Soon becoming the Child’s new favorite toy, the Rabbit’s appearance becomes worn and shabby from play, and a wonderful change begins to happen. Through his adventures with the Child, the Velveteen Rabbit learns about love and friendship, and the true meaning of being real. This much-loved and inspiring story is set in a cozy and magical world, full of inspiring moments that will leave audiences feeling uplifted.

An elephant named Gerald and a pig named Piggie are best friends, but Gerald worries that something could go wrong that would end their friendship. Piggie is not worried at all. She's even happier and more excited than usual. That's because she and Gerald are invited to a party hosted by the Squirrelles, three singing squirrels who love to have a good time.
