Pablo, a high-powered lawyer, and doctoral candidate Tania, his very pregnant wife, are realizing the American dream when they purchase a house next door to community stalwarts Virginia and Frank. But a disagreement over a long-standing fence line soon spirals into an all-out war of taste, class, privilege, and entitlement.

Auditions happen in person at TexARTS on Sunday, October 15th from 1:00 – 5:00 pm. Please prepare a one-minute contemporary comedic monologue. Auditionors may be asked to read sides from the script.

Character breakdown
TANIA DEL VALLE – female presenting to play early thirties; smart, likeable, positive, passionate, highly-energized, pregnant PhD candidate and gardener.
PABLO DEL VALLE – male presenting to play early thirties; smart, likeable, ambitious, savvy young attorney.
VIRGINIA BUTLEY –female presenting to play sixty to mid-seventies; smart, likeable, assertive, direct, no-nonsense engineer.
FRANK BUTLEY – male presenting to play sixty to mid-seventies; smart, likeable, excitable, caring, detail-oriented federal employee and gardener.
Also seeking four extras to play the silent roles of the SURVEYOR, LANDSCAPERS and BUILDING EXAMINER. There are short theatrical vignettes between scenes that can help transform the garden. These workers should preferably be Latinx and exude unique personalities as they work. They are the witnesses and the energetic transformers of both the play and the situation.
Important Dates
Tentative first rehearsal: Saturday, February 3rd
Tech Rehearsals: Saturday - Sunday, February 24-25
Tech/Dress: Tuesday – Wednesday, February 27-28
Invited Preview: Thursday, February 29
Opening Night: Friday, March 1st
Closes: Sunday, March 17
Performances (10) at TexARTS at 7:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. matinees Sundays. There will be one Thursday 7:30 pm performance on March 14.
Rehearsals will be held weekday evenings from 6:30 – 10:00 pm and during the day on weekends at TexARTS in Lakeway.
Payment
Some SPT1 Equity Contracts Available ($255/week minus union dues)
$1100 total for nonunion actors in the roles of Tania, Pablo, Virgina and Frank.
$100 travel stipends will be provided for non-speaking extras.
