Nate the Great
by Georgetown Palace Theatre

Mar. 09 (2023)

Nate the Great, the world’s greatest boy detective awakes, hoping that this day will bring a new case. He gets a call from his good friend Annie alerting him that her new painting of her dog Fang is missing! He rushes over to her house to investigate. There he searches for clues and interviews her brother Harry who loves red paint and monsters. He also observes (and possibly tangoes) with Fang.

Having struck out at Annie’s house, Nate deduces that the painting must have been taken by Annie’s cat loving friend Rosamond; as she was the only other person with access to Annie’s masterpiece.

Upon arriving at Rosamond’s house, Nate learns that she has a case to solve as well. One of her four cats, Super Hex, is missing! Nate ultimately realizes that Rosamond could not have stolen the painting. For the first time in his career, he is…stumped. And worse yet, Mom is all out of pancakes.

To solve this case he is going to need to find some pancakes, learn to think new ways, and rely on the help of his friends. By the end he has opened up his mind to new possibilities, found Annie’s painting, found Rosamond’s cat, and maybe even solved the mystery of why music in a minor key makes us sad.

Nate the Great is on the case!

The Georgetown Palace Theatre Education Department announces auditions for our Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) production of Nate the Great: The Musical. The production is scheduled to open Tuesday, April 4, 2023 and close on Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Being a TYA production, rehearsals and performances will happen during daytime hours. Performances will be scheduled for Tuesday – Friday at 10:00 am and at NOON. Cast members MUST be available for all performance dates and times. However, actual performances are confirmed based on reservations from schools for group field trips. Actual performance dates/times will be confirmed for the cast and crew 2 weeks prior.

There will also be two performances with ticket sales open to the public on Saturday, April 15, 2023 and on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 11:00am.

Based on the popular book series, NATE THE GREAT is a funny, sweet, rollicking good time that celebrates art, friendship, creative thinking, and of course, pancakes.

We’re looking for talented and diverse performers who will have a lot of fun bringing this educational musical to life for young audiences. We are seeking talented performers of all ethnicities for all roles in this production, ages 18 and up.

THE AUDITIONS!

Auditions will take place at the Doug Smith Performance Center (206 W. 2nd St.) on Thursday, March 9th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Auditions will consist of vocal auditions, cold readings of sides from the script, and a simple dance/movement assessment.

We will ask everyone to attend for the entire time.

Sign up for Auditions HERE

Please prepare one or two selected vocal sides from the show using the accompaniment tracks provided. We will ask you to come in one at a time at the start of auditions to sing your vocal selection(s).

Actors of all ethnicities and gender identities are encouraged to audition. In reference to the character descriptions below—most characters we encounter currently are in the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. But however limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities. Let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide (from language developed by Kevin Kantor and Emily Tarquin from the Actors Theatre of Louisville)

REHEARSALS!

Nate the Great will begin rehearsals on or around Monday, March 20, 2023. Scripts and Scores will be available for pick up before the first rehearsal to those who are offered roles in our production.

Rehearsals are typically held Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and possibly Saturday afternoons from 1:00-5:00 pm. (There is some flexibility in the exact times based on the role and the needs of the director and cast).

PERFORMANCES!

Performances are tentatively scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 10:00 am and at NOON. Cast members MUST be available for all performance dates and times. However, actual performances are confirmed based on reservations from schools for group field trips. Actual performance dates and times will be confirmed for the cast and crew two weeks prior.

There are also two Saturday performances with ticket sales open to the public on April 15, 2023 and April 22, 2023 at 11:00am.

CONFLICTS!

Due to the truncated rehearsal period, we will be looking for actors who can provide very few conflicts. Please make sure to notate any and all conflicts that you are aware of on your conflict sheet when filling out your audition form. Adding all of your conflicts after casting could result in removal of the production.

CASTING!

Once casting is completed, emails will be sent to the actors that will be offered a role in the production. Once the full cast has accepted, everyone else who auditioned will be notified via email.

**For this TYA show, performers will be paid a weekly stipend of $200.00 for each week of the rehearsal and performance period (March 20, 2023 – April 22, 2023). This stipend will be paid at the same amount for all performers regardless of the actual number of rehearsals and/or performances completed per week. The intent is to help offset the cost of reduced availability for other work hours/job opportunities due to the scheduling commitments of daytime rehearsals and performances.**

HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS!

Masks are currently optional for all patrons, front of house staff, performers, crew, and musicians during rehearsals and performances.

Everyone should self-monitor for symptoms and stay home if they do not feel well. You should also wear a mask if you have direct exposure to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, and get tested on the 5th day following the exposure.

We’re constantly monitoring and evaluating our policies and will update them based on guidance from the CDC.
