Press Junket: In the Bluff

In this immersive experience, a press junket is being held to promote a (fictitious) film called In the Bluff, a soon-to-be-released romantic comedy about strip poker. Upon arrival, each guest will be greeted as a member of the press and given the opportunity to interview the film's director and a group of four cast members. Sample interview questions will be provided, and the guests are also free to make up their own. The cast will field the guests' questions on-the-fly, using their improvisational skills to give answers that are funny and spontaneous, but nevertheless tell a cohesive story that serves the plot of the show. The experience will culminate with a group Q&A panel that wraps up the plot. More details are available at pressjunket.live.

Taking place concurrently with SXSW Film & TV, Press Junket: In the Bluff is an immersive experience that features the film industry and highlights the creativity of Austin's actor community. Improv experience is required! Note that this event occurs in the MORNING (10:00am showtimes, approximately 75 minutes duration) at Vintage Bookstore & Wine Bar on E. 11th Street.
All are welcome to audition. Audition materials are due Wednesday, Feb. 22nd, 2023. Callbacks will occur February 24 - 26. Rehearsals TBD.
NOTE: *performances occur during weekday mornings!* Your presence is required 9:30 am - 11:15 am on Wed./Thurs., March 15-16th, 2023. Do not apply if you cannot be present at those times.
The roles to fill are: (1) Film director (any age, any sex), (2) Female romantic lead, (3) Male romantic lead, (4) Female sidekick/best friend, (5) Male cardplayer who was a World Series of Poker champion brought into the project despite having no acting experience, and (6) Male understudy.
Performers will be compensated. Each actor will earn $130 and the understudy will earn $50.
Audition materials: (1) description of past improv experience, (2) audition video.
Video instructions: Please email hello@cheerfulsecrets.com a 1-2 minute video, in "talking head" style, in which you answer imaginary press questions about the film. Examples might include: What was it like working with this director? What was something funny that happened on set? How are your poker skills in real life?. Please show off your creativity and spontaneity; your video should be improvised responses, not a belabored monologue.
Call backs will be selected character pairings and will include improv exercises.
