Character/Casting Breakdown
Seussical is about imagination, so we get to explore the full diversity of our community! We are looking for actors of all kinds for this show. Different body types, genders, races, ethnicity, ages, religions, abilities, and more. We want everyone to feel welcome at auditions and on our stage, whether you wear a hijab, use a wheelchair, have a first language other than English, or anything else that makes you unique!
As a director, Andrew works off of a “conscious” casting model (different from models like “colorblind”casting). This means that he tries to be intentional about casting the best person for a role, which sometimes means more than just picking the best singer or actor. Other factors might include: how life experience and identity contribute to the narrative, potential, work ethic, attitude, etc.
For this production of Seussical, unless it is explicitly stated otherwise in the character breakdown, for all roles we will consider:
-
Actors ages 6+, as long as they are able to read on their own without assistance (to discuss accommodations for actors with disabilities that may impact this requirement, such as low vision, email Andrew at andrew.roblyer@gmail.com)
-
Actors of all genders; you will have the opportunity to indicate which gender of roles you wish to be considered for on your audition form when you check in
-
Actors of all body types
-
Actors of all races/ethnicities (including but not limited to Black, Latinx, Asian, Arab, Native, White,
and Multi-Racial)
-
Actors with and without disabilities
On the next two pages is a list of all of the characters, their vocal ranges, and additional information
we want you to consider as you choose your audition song and prepare to show us what you’ve got! We have listed a preferred age range (Adult/Youth) for each role as well, but if you really want to audition for a role that doesn’t match your age range, go for it!
