For over 40 years, Esther’s Follies in Austin Texas has been entertaining sold-out audiences with political satire, comedy sketches, Vegas- style magic and hilarious musical numbers. Esther’s has been hailed as “Austin’s answer to Saturday Night Live”, with sharp insightful comedy performed by talented actors, entertainers, and musicians.
A Must-See Austin Experience
Often topping the lists of “Must-See” Austin experiences for tourists and locals alike, Esther’s provides a one-of-a-kind theatrical show. The back wall of the theater is wall-to-wall windows facing the infamous 6th St, allowing the stage performers to play with (and sometimes poke fun at) the wild party that is 6th St. Nowhere else in Austin can you get so close to the action from the comfort of your theater chair.
The Show is Always Changing
Just like on Saturday Night Live, cast members and show writers meet weekly to pitch new sketch and song ideas based on world events, political news, entertainment scandals and local news. Even Ray Anderson, the featured magician, rotates in new exciting magic illusions to keep audiences mystified.
Vegas-Style Magic Right Here in Austin
Ray Anderson blends magic illusions, comedy, and audience participation into the most carefully constructed performances in the magic world. The immaculate and inventive large-scale illusions keep audiences stunned while laughing at the expert comedic timing. If you’re lucky you may even see one of Ray’s dogs perform in the show.
In summary, Esther’s Follies entertains audiences 5 shows a week, every Thursday through Saturday night, and we invite you to join us. The iconic Esther's Follies on East Sixth Street seeks both female and male performers with comedic experience and singing ability (we don't need a Broadway quality voice, just great energy!)
We are specifically seeking actors who can jump right into our cast and learn the material quickly. The show is funny, fast-paced and always changing. Must be available to perform, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with rehearsals Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12-3 pm.
