NESA brings The Beatles to TWELFTH NIGHT in '65, Feb. 25 - 28, 2016
|
North East School of the Arts presents one of Shakespeare's most popular comedies, TWELFTH NIGHT, as the second production of its 2015/16 season. Updated to the swinging, mod London of 1965, NESA's production will feature musicians and singers performing a variety of early Beatles classics such as Yesterday, If I Fell, and This Boy.
Viola, shipwrecked on the coast of Illyria, disguises herself as a man and becomes servant to the lovelorn Duke Orsino, who dispatches her to deliver his exclamations of love to the Countess Olivia, who wants nothing to do with Orsino. But Olivia IS attracted to this new messenger Cesario (Viola), and begins to pursue him (her), while Viola herself falls in love with Orsino! Meanwhile, Olivia's drunkard uncle, Sir Toby Belch, gathers a ragtag band of fellow oddballs to play a terrible prank on Malvolio, Olivia's unpleasant, pompous steward. Shake-speare spins these mistaken identities and misdirected passions into a delightful comic escapade.
TWELFTH NIGHT will be staged with actors and audience placed close together on the stage of the Lee High School auditorium, with ONLY 140 SEATS available. Because of the limited seating, a Saturday matinee performance has been added to the show schedule.
