The Time Machine
by Montopolis
Jan. 13 - Jan. 15, 2017
Friday-Sunday
Team Montopolis invites you to the Montopolis Time Machine Module on January 13, 14, and 15, 2017 at the Long Center’s Rollins Theater. Join our stellar team of musicians and technicians on a multimedia trip through the 20th century, fueled by music, photography, animation and chutzpah. The crew will delight you with songs of yesteryear performed on modified analog synthesizers while you enjoy a whirlwind tour through time, in search of a better understanding of art, music, fashion, love, pop tarts, lasers, sweaters, miniature golf, go carts, video games, soup, and the human condition in general. And although Team Montopolis has traveled through every moment in human history, they only shop for clothes in the 70’s.
The Time Machine is a wild ride through the 20th century that's part musical review, part animation explosion, and part historical survey. Montopolis will rock popular songs from every decade while iconic images are screened in a dynamic slideshow with animations created by Stephen Fishman of Total Unicorn.
This version of Montopolis includes Laura Scarborough (Golden Dawn Orchestra) and Catherine Davis (Illusory Impressions, Zykos) on synthesizers and supported by rhythm section Josh Robins (Invincible Czars), Gary James (Bell Tree), and Andy Beaudoin (The Eastern Sea). 10 local artists have chosen images of each decade from Austin and the entire world. The result is a breathtaking tour through the last century that stops every so often to check back on the progress of our hometown as it grows.
The Little Boy from The Red Balloon is Back!
Actress Gricelda Silva will be joining Montopolis on stage for The Time Machine. In 2010, we worked with Gricelda at the Rollins Theater on Tongue and Groove Theatre's The Red Balloon. We're coming back to the Rollins in 2017, but the once shy, introverted kid has become the loudmouthed, absurdist Captain of the Time Machine. Captain Silva gets the job done!
