Set in Ireland, the play discusses mental illness and dysfunction, and takes place in a rickety, dimly lit kitchen that adds to an overwhelming sense of entrapment. The show focuses on the life of Maureen Folan, a stale and lonely woman in her early forties, as well as her controlling and aging mother Mag, whose interference in Maureen’s first and possibly final chance of a romantic relationship sets in motion a domino sequence of events that leads uncontrollably towards the play’s unsettling end.
