Set in the 1880s, In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play follows the lives of a young doctor and his wife and the women he is treating for “hysteria” with a newfangled machine that could only be invented by the onset of electricity. This funny and provocative play was nominated for three Tony Awards, a Drama Desk Award, and a Pulitzer Prize nomination for playwright Sarah Ruhl.  The New York Times calls Sarah Ruhl, “… one of the most gifted and adventurous American playwrights to emerge in recent years”
