YOKEis a dark comedy about five strangers who gather for a weekend wellness retreat that promises transformation without explaining how. Through a series of increasingly unsettling tasks, the group is pushed toward confession, conflict, and moments of unexpected self-reflection and mutual understanding.

This production was created through a fully devised process, with the ensemble building the play collaboratively from the ground up. Guided by the theme of sonder (the awareness that everyone has a rich inner life) the company generated material through discussion, movement, improvisation, and reflection, shaping it together into a one-hour performance. As with all Dirty Gold Theatre projects, the process was mindfulness-based, incorporating meditations, physical warm-ups, and regular check-ins to support both artistic risk-taking and collective care.

Yoke (noun): from the Sanskrit root yuj, meaning “to join” or “to unite,” which is also the origin of the word yoga—referring to the act of binding, joining, or bringing together, whether bodies, minds, or beings.
