El Rey del Pollo is a family-friendly comedy that reimagines Shakespeare’s King Lear through a hilarious lens. Reymundo Lear, owner of a fried chicken empire, is ready to retire and pass the business on to his three daughters—but family drama, essential oils, a giant chicken suit, and rising menu prices make for a delightfully messy “Shakespearean telenovela.” Whether or not you know King Lear, you’ll laugh your way through this joyful, clever story.

This event is also a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, and we would be honored to have you spend a few hilarious hours on our beautiful campus. We know there’s a lot happening in Austin right now, but we hope you’ll join us for this unique blend of comedy, culture, and community.

As part of the celebration, we’re also thrilled to host a post-show plática at 5:00 PM with the award-winning Borderlands Shakespeare Colectiva, exploring the art of adapting Shakespeare in ways that reflect the lived experiences of the U.S.–Mexico borderlands.
