Fiddler on the Roof is the musical story of Tevye, a poor dairyman living in the little village of Anatevka. Tevye struggles to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof has touched audiences around the world with its humor, warmth and honesty. The universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness. The show features one of the most memorable roles in all of musical theatre. Originally directed and choreographed by legendary director Jerome Robbins, Fiddler on the Roof features such Broadway classics such as “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Matchmaker.”

A Broadway Smash Hit!

Fiddler originally premiered on Broadway in 1964 and went on to set several box-office records. It was the first Broadway musical to surpass 3,000 performances and held the record for the longest running musical for almost 10 years. Currently it remains the sixteenth longest running musical in Broadway's history. Fiddler was nominated for ten Tony Awards, winning nine, including Best Musical, score, book, direction and choreography. It has been revived four times on Broadway and adapted into a highly successful 1971 film version that won three Academy Awards.  Fiddler has enjoyed enduring international popularity, continuing to be a very popular choice for regional, school and community productions.
