In 1957, Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro baseball leagues, now works as a sanitation worker in Pittsburgh. Battling racial and economic barriers, Troy’s dreams and disappointments cast a shadow over his relationships with his family, especially his son Cory, who wishes to pursue a career in football. The play explores themes of generational conflict, unfulfilled dreams, and the impact of systemic racism on Black lives.

Written by August Wilson.
