This riveting performance brings the fearless persona of Texas Governor Ann Richards, a woman known for her tenacity and iron-willed spirit to the stage. This powerful portrayal highlights her journey, revealing how she emerged stronger through trials, embodying the tagline, "Tougher than Nails." The play captures the essence of Richards' resilience, her sharp wit, and her unwavering commitment to public service. Don't miss this glimpse into the life of a woman who truly defined a generation.

Review by Jill Ripa, San Antonio Broadway World, November 11, 2024

Director Melissa Utley adds: “Directing ANN by the engaging Holland Taylor is an incredible opportunity to bring the story of an extraordinary woman to life. Governor Ann Richards was bold, witty, and fiercely passionate about creating change, all while staying true to herself. As a female director, it’s empowering (and an honor) to share the journey of a woman who broke barriers and led with courage, humor, and conviction. This play is not just a celebration of Ann Richards, but a reminder of the strength and resilience women bring to leadership, and how much can be achieved when we embrace our voice and our power. Ann is, quite simply, indomitable. Her journey is layered with numerous struggles, including her battles with alcoholism, gender based criticism, balancing work and family, as well as political opposition.

"And can I just say: what a time to be alive! Directing ANN in real time in the midst of our own 2024 election cycle feels incredibly powerful. Her story reminds us of the importance of women’s voices in politics and leadership—then and now. In this moment, as we navigate our own political landscape, bringing Ann’s wit, wisdom, and unapologetic spirit to the stage feels more relevant than ever. Regardless of the outcome of our country’s own election, Ann reminds us that change is possible when we stand up, speak out, and never lose sight of who we are. Her story is universal.”

The cast includes ANNA GANGAI as Ann Richards, with CHRISTI EANES as the voice of Nancy Kohler.
