Tartuffe
by CTX Theatre - Concordia University

Mar. 07 - Mar. 10, 2019
Thursday-Sunday

The religious fraud Tartuffe has wormed his way into the affections and household of the merchant Orgon, with pantomime piety and counterfeit zeal. So comprehensively has he hoodwinked his host that he looks set to driving away the son, marrying the daughter, seducing the wife, and imprisoning Orgon.

In 1664, Tartuffe was denounced after its first performance as a sacrilegious outrage and banned from further public view.  Only after petition to Louis XIV was the ban lifted, and the play’s trenchant for mockery of human frailties has ensured its popularity ever since.

The cast includes Jessica Bartel, Kierra Collins, Brittany Drews, Nathaniel Fomby, Preston Galban, Tyler Ortega, Caleb Richey, Emily Sandler, Rachel Schelen, Maddie Silvestro, and Abbey Whatley.

Stage manager Elizabeth Fuller, who is graduating this April, comments, “This show is a thrill.  As the stage manager, I get to see the play from first read-through to final curtain. These actors have put so much effort in to make this play a success.I love getting to see the actors exploring their characters.I will miss getting to work with this little family of mine.”

Tartuffe will be staged by Director of Fine Arts Dr. Kelly Carolyn Gordon, with lighting design by Smokey Westerfeld, set design by Samantha Gonzalez, costume design by Cecelia Gay, and sound design by Matthew Smith.
