The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
by CTX Theatre - Concordia University
Mar. 01 - Mar. 04, 2018
Thursday-Sunday
This March, Concordia University Theatre will present "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." Winner of the 2004 Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced, wildly funny and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience.
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller wins! At least the losers get a juice box.
The cast includes: Kiki Collins (Rona Lisa Peretti), Abigail Counts (Olive Ostrovsky), Nathaniel Fomby (William Barfee), Cooper Kelm (Leaf Coneybear), Ember Marshall (Marcy Park), Caleb Richey (Douglas Panch), Emily Peterson (Mitch Mahoney), Tim Peterson (Chip Tolentino), and Rachel Schelen (Logainne Schwartzandgrubanierre)—along with a few surprise spellers.
"The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" will be staged by the Director of Fine Arts, Dr. Kelly Carolyn Gordon, with musical direction by Shelley Schneider, lighting design by Yi-Tai Chung, set design by Michael Krauss, and costume design by Jessi Rose.
