Texas State University Invites Video Applications by High School Juniors & Seniors to Two-Week June Intensive Musical Theatre Camp, Deadline 1/15/2017
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas State University is now accepting applications for NEXUS, a two-week summer musical theatre camp for high school junior and senior students from June 10 to 25, 2017.
Admission to the highly competitive camp is by video audition only. Up to 70 students will experience two weeks of intensive training with Texas State Musical Theatre faculty and top industry professionals at Texas State University’s state-of-the-art facilities, located in the idyllic Hill Country of Texas. The camp will culminate in a final showcase performance.
The curriculum is modeled on Texas State University’s nationally acclaimed BFA musical theatre program, and will include master classes and workshops in voice, acting, a range of dance styles, audition prep, improvisation, as well as vocal and physical health, nutrition, mental wellness/stress management.
“NEXUS will provide students with a solid understanding of what being a professional actor is all about,” says Kaitlin Hopkins, Head of Musical Theatre at Texas State University. “Our goal is to prepare musical theatre students for upcoming college auditions and to give them an opportunity to polish their performance skills.”

NEXUS is open to rising juniors and seniors, although applications from rising sophomores of exceptional ability and experience will be considered.
*Rising seniors may officially audition for the Texas State BFA in Musical Theatre Program at the end of the two-week intensive.

During NEXUS students experience two weeks of intensive training at the university’s state-of-the-art facilities. The campus is set in the idyllic Hill Country of Texas. We will accept up to 70 students per year in this highly sought after summer intensive, which prepares them for the demands of a rigorous four-year training program.
The intensive curriculum is based on Texas State’s highly respected, nationally recognized BFA musical theater program and will be taught by Texas State’s esteemed faculty. Texas State faculty is made up of working professionals with credits that span Broadway, off Broadway, film, television, national tours and international tours, recording, radio, voice-overs, television commercials and much more. Our faculty members work together to fully integrate all aspects of the curriculum with a focus on the health of the performer physically, vocally and mentally. Our curriculum has a cutting edge, outside the box approach and was designed by Broadway professionals to train future Broadway professionals.

What type of student are we looking for at Nexus?
Curriculum
Classes are modeled on those of the BFA musical theater students at Texas State, including master classes and workshops in Vocal Health, Physical Health and Nutrition, and Mental Wellness/Stress Management.
Curriculum also includes: voice, acting, musical theater dance styles, Tap, Ballet, Jazz, audition prep, improvisation and help with audition material selection.
How to Apply
Admission is by video audition, application, and personal recommendation letter, and is highly competitive.
Airport Transportation
Shuttles to and from the Austin Bergstrom International (AUS) Airport will be provided to students traveling by air. Specific van pick up times will be included in your acceptance letter. Please plan flights accordingly.
Deadlines and Tuition
Admitted students are required to submit a $500 deposit to secure enrollment. Enrollment deposits will be credited against the tuition balance.
Tuition: $2,800
Program Dates: June 10-25, 2017
Application Deadline: January 15, 2017
Notification of Acceptance: February 15, 2017
$500 Non-Refundable Deposit Deadline: March 1, 2017
Full Tuition Deadline: April 1, 2017
The balance can be made in 2 payments, as long as the final payment is received by April 1, 2017.

Cancellation Policy
Prior to April 15, 2017: if a student withdraws, 100% of the total tuition will be refunded minus the non-refundable $500 deposit
Prior to May 1, 2017: if a student withdraws, 50% of the total tuition will be refunded minus the non-refundable $500 deposit
After May 1, 2017: if a student withdraws, no refund will be given.
Admission Notification
For consideration and notification, all application and audition materials must be received by the application deadline. January 15th, 2017. Notifications of acceptance will be emailed. No decisions will be given by phone.
As a courtesy to Nexus faculty and other applicants, please notify us at MTSummerCamp@txstate.edu if you need to withdraw your application due to committing to another summer program that conflicts with the NEXUS dates.
