Playhouse San Antonio Announces Revised 2016-2017 Season
We're pleased and excited to present the 2016-17 Season of The Playhouse San Antonio.
We've made alterations to the previously announced schedule but we'll be continuing a few traditions from the past. For each of the shows in the Russell Hill Rogers Theater, we’ll have a #FoodTruckFriday on the second Friday of every run of a show in the RHR theater and we'll have an ASL Night in which we host an ASL interpreter to help us share the beauty of live theater with the San Antonio deaf community.
We've changed the dates of three of the productions in the Cellar Theater to better the patron experience. By removing conflicting dates with the musicals upstairs in the Russell Hill Rogers Theater, upcoming season purchasing options will be more flexible and there will no longer be sound distractions overheard from the big musical numbers taking place above. Furthermore, this will allow our production staff and front of house team to better focus on the goals needed per production, further improving the patrons' experience.
We will be replacing ‘Nine’ with 'Urinetown: The Musical', a fun show that has been performed in our area before. It is a show that is extremely entertaining and lighthearted. If you're a fan of musical theater, you'll love this one as it's a highenergy parody of many Broadway hits.
Additionally, we will be replacing ‘A Christmas Carol’ with 'All is Calm'. We are pleased and honored to be able to present the story of the Christmas Eve truce of 1914. It is a stunningly beautiful piece of theater that honors the efforts of the soldiers that fought for their countries and, in the face of humanity's darkest days, found a way to capture the essence of the peace and love for mankind. For this powerful show, we're proud and honored to be partnering with The Marcsmen, San Antonio’s premier men’s a cappella group. Though this show is a collaboration with the Marcsmen, we will be holding auditions for all roles.
We look forward to seeing you at these performances. In the coming weeks, you'll see a few more of the fun and exciting changes happening with our web and social media presence.
