Needed: Music Directors for Two New Works for Upcoming Main Street Music Festival in Austin
NEEDED: Music Directors. MainStreet Musicals is a national organization that workshops new musicals regionally and Ann Pittman Zarate is bringing an MSM festival to Austin!
1. Woody. It’s a modern day parable - a re-telling of the Pinnochio story where Pinnochio is a “real boy” (actually an adult gay man) who is so steeped in virtual reality that he’s turning back into wood. The writer and composer are potentially flying in to see the show. You can listen to some music demos here. Proceeds from the benefit concert will go to HRC (or another local charity benefitting Austin’s gay community pending a mutual decision of cast/crew)/
This is a concert performance reading, so you’ll have minimal rehearsals with the cast. For Woody, we’re recommending three rehearsals with your choir, two rehearsals with soloists. You will then play for three rehearsals with the director and cast. MSM operates under the Equity Membership Code contract however, pay is $500 for pianist/music director.
2. After the Fair. Cyrano de Bergerac meets Emma; a 19th -entury story of love and letters. The writer and composer are potentially flying in to see the show. You can listen to some music demos here. Proceeds from the benefit concert will go to Jumpstart (or another local charity for literacy in Central Austin pending a mutual decision of cast/crew). MSM operates under the Equity Membership Code contract however, pay is $500 for pianist/music director.
This is a concert performance reading so you’ll have minimal rehearsals with the cast. After the Fair has only 4 characters. We recommend 4 music rehearsals and then the director, Manuel Zarate will get three rehearsals with the cast. One tech night will be held at Trinity Street Players Wednesday or Thursday before the performance. This show will have the opportunity to be done again in January or February in Creede, Colorado. That will be a separate contract, however.
Thanks for considering being a part of this awesome first-time-in-Austin-festival for workshopping new musicals! Additional partners include Trinity Street Players, HBMG Foundation, Robert King Jr. Productions, and the Vortex.
