Kickstarter Funding Appeal: Steve Rogers' Exhibit of Portraits of Austin Artists
An exhibition of larger than life black-and-white portraits of Austin's artists, actors, authors, comedians, and improvisers.
Steve Rogers Portrait Project 2016 at the Hideout Coffee House Gallery Show
A Kickstarter funding appeal for $1500 to cover costs
In April and May of 2016 I asked 32 friends, actors, directors and comedians to sit for black and white portraits. I found the sessions fulfilling and the results so stunning that I want to celebrate this work in a gallery showcase.
The Hideout Coffee House and Theatre have agreed to host this gallery exhibition for three months starting in July 2016. This is a perfect place for people to see the portraits. It's 5 blocks south of the Texas State Capital and receives a great deal of foot traffic. In addition, the exhibition will be on display during the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival, which hosts improv and sketch troupes from all over the country and draws large audiences.
My vision for this show is to display large prints of each portrait with some being displayed in a 16" by 24" and 20" by 30" format (poster size). I am asking for $1500 to pay for the printing, shipping, and display costs for each portrait (the gallery space is free). If I reach my stretch goal of $3500, I will be able to print on metal allowing the photos to remain in excellent condition for over 100 years. Any funding over the stretch goal will go towards my continued work of documenting the improv community of Austin, Texas.
Thank you so much for your support!
Since 2010 I have photographed 919 live performances in Austin, Texas (and counting). This includes over 700 improv, sketch, stand up, and theatrical productions. I am a staff photographer for Texas Roller Derby and a Getty Photographer for the SXSW festival. Additionally, I provide promotional photography for several Austin theaters and have a studio where I specialize in portraits, head shots, casuals and art photography.
