Fundraiser: $3000 to Support GUEST BY COURTESY Tour to Brooklyn Navy Yard, July 23 - 30, 2016

GUEST BY COURTESY is an original performance developed by Jenny Larson – artistic director of Salvage Vanguard Theater – and Hannah Kenah – company member, performer, and writer for the Rude Mechs. Original music was composed by Graham Reynolds, who performs live when possible.

GUEST BY COURTESY portrays the mangled story of a pair of cousins waging their bizarre relationship over the course of a failing afternoon tea. Using high physicality, sharp language, and sheer vulgarity, the show plumbs the comedic depths of duration and desperation.

GUEST BY COURTESY has, thus far, delighted audiences in Texas and in Eastern Europe. We aim to add Brooklyn to that esteemed list. The show premiered in Austin in 2011 at the Salvage Vanguard Theater. GBC was then selected for the 2013 Fusebox Festival, an awesome contemporary performance festival that takes place in Austin every April and draws in work from around the world. For our Fusebox Festival run, we performed in a Masonic lodge - our absurd, feminist work entertained full houses and the portraits of ancient, dead men that surrounded us. The most incredible and surreal piece of the map fell into place when, in the fall of 2013, our team traveled to Sofia, Bulgaria as part of an artist exchange with the University of Sofia. There we performed the show in the opulent arms of the former royal palace turned National Art Gallery.

Our map is not complete. We want more entries.

Next stop, Brooklyn!!!

Kenah, Larson, and their amazing third-partner-in-crime Jason Hays will take their comedy to an East Bed-Stuy living room. Presented by the Brooklyn Yard, July 23rd- 30th 2016.

The Brooklyn Yard is generously producing the show but the creative team needs help paying for airfare and housing.

What We Need

  • $1000 to pay for three airline tickets to get Kenah, Larson, and Jason Hays to Brooklyn.
  • $2000 to rent an airbnb apartment for the two week run.

What You Get

Perks are listed on the right side of the IndieGoGo screen --> gifts for your contribution can include tickets to Kenah and Larson's next collaboration WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY ALICE SITS, drink tickets, fancy party passes, and a handwritten letter from your favorite GUEST BY COURTESY cousin.

What if we don't reach our fundraising goal?

If we don't meet our fundraising goal, we will use the money raised to produce a 1 weekend Austin run of GUEST BY COURTESY. Run dates TBD.

A few things people have had to say about the show:

[click for CTX Live Theatre review of November, 2011]

"Kenah has a steely, wicked energy and a lovely Bacall growl, and Larson's shifts from uptight shop-girl to WWF harpy are straight-up dazzling. Their bravura turns are what makes Guest by Courtesy smart, explosive, and --dare I say it?--ballsy." -The Austinist
“Larson and Kenah, with perfect comic timing and tempo, keep us laughing for a good solid hour” – Austin Chronicle
"Hannah Kenah and Jenny Larson have a natural chemistry onstage. Their ease of expression is apparent" -Austin American Statesman

"The writing range wild, clear, and exceptionally funny. All the movement was terrifically staged and played. " -Deborah Hay, choreographer
