Fundraiser: $3000 to Support GUEST BY COURTESY Tour to Brooklyn Navy Yard, July 23 - 30, 2016
GUEST BY COURTESY is an original performance developed by Jenny Larson – artistic director of Salvage Vanguard Theater – and Hannah Kenah – company member, performer, and writer for the Rude Mechs. Original music was composed by Graham Reynolds, who performs live when possible.
GUEST BY COURTESY portrays the mangled story of a pair of cousins waging their bizarre relationship over the course of a failing afternoon tea. Using high physicality, sharp language, and sheer vulgarity, the show plumbs the comedic depths of duration and desperation.
GUEST BY COURTESY has, thus far, delighted audiences in Texas and in Eastern Europe. We aim to add Brooklyn to that esteemed list. The show premiered in Austin in 2011 at the Salvage Vanguard Theater. GBC was then selected for the 2013 Fusebox Festival, an awesome contemporary performance festival that takes place in Austin every April and draws in work from around the world. For our Fusebox Festival run, we performed in a Masonic lodge - our absurd, feminist work entertained full houses and the portraits of ancient, dead men that surrounded us. The most incredible and surreal piece of the map fell into place when, in the fall of 2013, our team traveled to Sofia, Bulgaria as part of an artist exchange with the University of Sofia. There we performed the show in the opulent arms of the former royal palace turned National Art Gallery.
Our map is not complete. We want more entries.
Next stop, Brooklyn!!!
