Where?

AT&T Executive Conference Center
UT Campus
1900 University Avenue, Austin 78705

AND we’re so honored to have heard from so many of you who are waiting to submit! Now’s the time! We are opening submissions TODAY and will be receiving them until Saturday, March 1st at 11:59pm. Bring on the stories of motherhood, we can’t wait to read them all!

What kinds of stories are we looking for?

Listen to Your Mother is a live stage production of local writers reading their stories about motherhood. The Austin show is part of an exciting nationwide series of shows in cities across the country, including New York, San Francisco, Boston and Chicago. All shows are held on or around Mother’s Day.

Austin’s LTYM directors are seeking a diverse collection of local writers to read their own words about motherhood. People of all ages, backgrounds and experience-levels are invited to submit their work. Remember, everyone has a mother story, whether you are a mother or not.

Send your humorous, poignant or soulful words about the good, the bad and the ridiculous of motherhood toltymaustin@gmail.com. Please note we use a 2-part selection process. The first step is submitting your essay via email.

What are the guidelines?

  • We accept any piece of writing that fits the topic of motherhood in all of its grisly and grace-filled glory. (this can be about a mother you know, your own mother or you, as long as it fits the theme of motherhood, it’s all good!)
  • You do not have to be a mother to submit, but the theme of your piece needs to be about motherhood in some way.
  • You do not have to be female to submit a piece, as long as, again, the message of your piece is about motherhood.
  • Your piece must be one that can be read out loud in five to seven minutes or less, so keep that in mind as you write and edit.
  • Please keep in mind that should your piece be chosen for audition and then chosen for the show, you must be available for two rehearsals and a tech run-through the day of the show. The dates of the first two rehearsals will be decided after the cast is chosen and will take place in mid to late April and in the first days of May.

You will hear back from us on whether or not you’ll be auditioning before or on Monday, March 31st.

Any questions? Feel free to ask in the comments or email us at ltymaustin@gmail.com

Thank you!
