B. Iden Payne Theatre Awards Committtee, Austin: Minimum Standards of Care & Artists' Bill of Rights

Beginning September 1st, the Minimum Standards of Care and Artists' Bill of Rights go into effect.
Productions that do not meet these standards will not be eligible for B. Iden Payne Awards.
About these Standards
First, let's talk about what these aren't. These aren't designed to be a form of censorship. These aren't designed to stop organizations from producing the shows they want to produce in the ways they want to produce them. These aren't designed to punish particular organizations or individuals. We are not appointing ourselves the police officers of the Austin Theatrical Community.
Now, let's talk about what these are. They're guidelines based on what are generally considered minimum standards of safety and consent for both the audience and the participants. Everyone who has reviewed these guidelines who were initially skeptical found them reasonable and obvious after reading them. The B. Iden Payne Awards Council believes that a production that is unsafe for its performers or audience members, or that is derived in an atmosphere of abuse cannot be considered "Outstanding."
Again, these go into effect September 1st. We encourage you to read them over and provide any feedback before that date.
