Opportunity: ATX Theatre annual Halloween Costume Sale, October 10 & 11, 2026

The Austin Theatre community’s collaborative Halloween Costume & Thrift Sale is back! October 10 & 11, 2026 
AUSTIN, Texas – ATX Theatre, Austin’s theatregoing hub, reprises the year's most theatrical upcycling event October 10th and 11th, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m: The Halloween Costume & Thrift Sale — at one of Austin’s producing theatres, Sterling Stage Austin, 6134 E Hwy 290, Austin, TX 78752.

Still growing in its fourth year, this one-of-a-kind event brings together wonders collected and created by local costume designers for Austin’s eighty theatre companies. "This sale rolls out a festive, local vibe. Think funky pop-up thrift store mixed with Austin's beloved Lucy in Disguise costume shop — R.I.P., Lucy's!" mused Sharron Anderson, the native Austinite who founded ATX Theatre. 

Last year’s sale drew record crowds, so to even out the entries this year, the first two hours (10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 10th) are for $5 VIP ticket-holders only. A limited number of these coveted tickets are available here. Then, from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, entry to the sale is FREE. Those who show that they registered for a FREE ticket will get priority entry before walk-ups. Both the VIP and free tickets are available at ATXheatre.org.

Fueled by snacks and bevs available for purchase at the entrance, thrifters seeking the weird and wonderful can expect racks of custom costumes, plus vintage treasures and everyday clothing. This year’s sale includes surprises such as 500 historical period sewing patterns, some beautiful materials, and gorgeous handmade hats.  The theatre community will be out in full force for this event, from period pieces made by hand for The Archive Theatre to cool modern togs seen in Walking Shadow Shakespeare shows, as well as a vintage-forward collection from Fashion Love Affair. Unexpected treats include Halloween-themed jewelry (from the founder of Shrewd Productions) and even crafty, adorable gifts from a local theatre critic! Heaven knows what else will show up, because there are always wild last-minute additions to this sale.  

 

Shoppers will receive a map of the space as they enter so they can find each vendor zone. Each vendor handles their own sales, so browsing occurs one zone at a time. Costume connoisseurs who CANNOT WAIT for this event can preview items by volunteering for three hours to help vendors with sale preparations here. Creatives with Halloween-themed goods to sell themselves can apply here as a vendor, but that should happen soon as the theatre is filling fast. Austin is known for its creative spirit, and this collective sale embodies that. Jennifer Davis, the award-winning costume designer and theatre producer who started this growing sale four years ago in her driveway, nods, "We want to ensure that the wardrobe and costuming items that our film and theatre industry uses have extended life after their good service in the arts. As more film and TV projects make their way back to Texas, we’d love to continue to grow this thing into a year-round thrift store someday," she says with fingers crossed.  For this year, be sure to catch this two-day sale while you can.
