2026-2027 Season: University of Texas Theatre & Dance
Texas Theatre and Dance is pleased to present a season of works that investigate the human condition in bold, unflinching and beautiful ways. Featuring a moving play for young audiences based on a beloved children’s book; a dark, highly theatrical tragicomedy about the lengths one would go to seek justice; two dance concerts presenting captivating and thought-provoking choreography; a collection of original plays by graduate playwrights and cutting edge performance art through our Studio Series and the biennial Cohen New Works Festival.
Working within the theme “Looking Back…Dreaming Forward,” this season’s works are transcendent, revisiting enduring stories in new and compelling ways. Simultaneously, Texas Theatre and Dance will continue uplifting the development, creation and performance of original, student-driven work through UTNT (UT New Theatre), now celebrating its milestone 20th season, along with our annual Studio Series and the return of the Cohen New Works Festival in Spring 2027.

OSCAR G. BROCKETT THEATRE
When Edward Tulane, a vain and self-centered toy rabbit, is accidentally thrown overboard while on an ocean voyage, he is catapulted into an incredible adventure. Over several decades, Edward’s travels take him across the country, relying on the generosity of strangers from vastly different circumstances. Through this miraculous journey, Edward experiences love, loss and heartbreak, ultimately asking how we can find the courage to love again. Based on Kate DiCamillo’s beautiful novel of the same name, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane is simultaneously thrilling, moving and magical.

The Visit
By Friedrich Dürrenmatt
Translated by Maurice Valency
Directed by Sunghyun Lim
OCTOBER 29-NOVEMBER 8, 2026
B. IDEN PAYNE THEATRE
The Visit opens on a small, dismal town as they prepare for the arrival of a mysterious millionairess – a former inhabitant whom they hope to win over as a benefactor. When she arrives, cloaked in grandeur, and offers to share her millions, the townspeople are ecstatic. That is, until they learn the condition of her generosity: the town must murder one of their own. Written by celebrated German-language dramatist Friedrich Dürrenmatt, and translated by Maurice Valency, The Visit weaves a macabre, grandiose and at times hilarious tale investigating the power of greed and desperation and the lengths one will go to seek justice.
“The Visit” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com
