Bring History to Life!
We’re seeking HYPER-LOCAL playwrights (located in Bell, Williamson, or Travis Counties in Texas) to bring history to life in a partnership with the Williamson County Museum.
We are seeking original 5-10 minute plays or 2-3 minute monologues that can bring the facts of specific historic buildings on the Old Settlers Association grounds to life.

A panel will select five standout works (one for each historic building) to be showcased on the Old Settlers Association grounds in March 2026.

DETAILS FOR SUBMISSION

Any play submission must come directly from the original playwright/author of the play.

A maximum of one short work based on each building (for a total of FIVE) may be submitted by the same author.

Only works from writers residing in Bell, Travis, or Williamson Counties in Texas will be considered.

Only works based on the historical buildings (see information here) will be considered.

Short plays must be between 5-10 minutes in length. Monologues must be between 2-3 minutes in length.

Short plays may have a maximum of 3 characters.

We require internet submissions in PDF format ONLY.

Your play should consist mainly of dialogue, not monologues.

Plays should be suitable for audiences of all ages.

Your play must be written in English.

Minimum props / set pieces. (Ultimately, the selected works may be performed OUTSIDE.)

Writers can expect to receive news of selection via email by January 18, 2026.

Sam Bass Theatre Association will be responsible for the production of each selected work.

No royalties or payment will be provided to playwrights should their work be selected.

There is no fee for an author to submit works or to participate in the submission process.

There is no compensation for any other associated artists post-selection: director/cast member(s)/etc.

Due to the specific historical nature of this project, selected works will be reviewed by the Education Department at Williamson County museum. Should revisions / additions be requested, the author will have sole responsibility for all artistic and factual revisions.

Five (5) works will be selected and presented on the grounds of Old Settlers Association in March 2026. Full details of these presentations will be communicated with the authors of selected works in advance of presentation.
