Welcome! Please fill out this form for your TUBU Fest 2025 submission! We are excited to have you! Before you submit, please review the linked Guidelines that are also included below.
- Play or musical is 15-25 minutes in length - Typically the average length is one minute per page based on pacing, blocking, stage directions, etc. We encourage reading it aloud at a moderate pace and timing it.
- Cast size - 6 actors maximum (actors may be written to perform more than one character).
- Play or musical format. While there is no one way to format a play, Samuel French offers a comprehensive set of guidelines for formatting scripts.
- If you need assistance with formatting, playwriting, or have any questions email info@tubufest.com.
- Please submit your play without your name or contact info on the cover page. We will be able to find your contact info via the form you've submitted.
- The deadline for submissions is March 31, 2025.
- Accepted plays will be announced on May 31, 2025.
- Winning plays will be performed at TUBU Fest. An Austin-based Director will cast with Austin area actors to perform once at Ground Floor Theatre between September 25-27, 2025 in the evening. Alternatively, you may bring your production to TUBU fest yourself if selected.
- The play submitted must be the play performed with minimal edits.
- Play must be able to be performed in a live theatre. We do not accept screenplays.
- Playwright must have a disability of any kind. The play itself doesn’t have to be about disabilities. However, the purpose of this festival is for people with disabilities to have their plays performed on a stage.
- There will be basic set pieces available for use at the Ground Floor theatre. We cannot accommodate large set pieces and/or scene transitions. Minimal space for set and prop storage. Here is a link to a diagram of the theatre:
- No flashing lights, theatrical fog, no liquids, no rigging available.
- The Ground Floor theatre is ADA compliant and accessible. The entire front row can be removed to accommodate wheelchairs. All chairs are removable in the theatre. Service animals are allowed. Audio description will be provided. Each night will be livestreamed with captioning.
- BYOC - Bring Your Own Care Attendant.
- You do not have to be present at TUBU Fest for your play to be performed, though we highly encourage you to if you are able.
- Only one play per form. Applicants may submit multiple plays, but will need to complete this form separately for each play submission. Playwrights may only have one play selected for the festival. Sending multiple does not guarantee selection.
- Playwrights who have submitted before are welcome to submit again with a non-selected play. If your play was selected before you are welcome to submit again, it does not guarantee selection.
