2025 Season - Ground Floor Theatre, Austin

(www.groundfloortheatre.org)Ground Floor Theatre (GFT) announces titles for the 2025 season including a Pulitzer-Prize winning comedy with a twist, a world premiere by local playwright Jenny Connell Davis, and an Austin premiere, in addition to a soon to be announced musical. Season memberships are available now at groundfloortheatre.org/seasonpass.

Commissioned by Berkley Rep and Soho Repertory Theatre, Fairview by Jackie Sibblies Drury won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It follows a middle-class family preparing a birthday dinner for their grandmother only to learn they are under “surveillance.”

Local author Jenny Connell Davis brings us a raucous good time with a fractured, fractious, high-octane fairy-tale. Raw, timely, and wild, I Wanna Be a F*cking Princess will make its world premiere at Ground Floor with GFT Co-Artistic Director Patti Neff-Tiven directing.

Inspired by her aunt who has Down syndrome, Lindsey Ferrentino’s Amy and the Orphans follows three adult siblings, two estranged and Amy with Down syndrome, reconnecting when they have to break bad news to Amy. Amy and the Orphans follows the three siblings in humorous and often riotous way, as they discover how much they don’t know about each other or family.

Directed by Maryanna Tollemache, Amy and the Orphans is part of the Director’s Rising Project, a mentoring project for new directors.

“Ten years ago, Patti and I created Ground Floor Theatre with the mission of shining a light on populations that don’t often get to bask in that glow,” said Co-Artistic Director Lisa Scheps. “Surpassing our own expectations, we are extremely proud of the work we have done over the last decade but continue to raise the bar with the 2025 season.”

AUSTIN PREMIERE

by Jackie Sibblies Drury | Directed by Anderson

Fairview begins as a family comedy but evolves into a sharp exploration of race, privilege, and surveillance. It centers on the Frasier family preparing for a birthday celebration, but as the story unfolds, the play challenges the audience's perspective on race and who is watching whom. Through a series of unexpected twists, Fairview forces viewers to confront uncomfortable truths about societal power dynamics and their own role as spectators. The play won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

WORLD PREMIERE

by Jenny Connell Davis | Directed by Patti Neff-Tiven

OMG – Bella’s getting married! Pack your bags, watch your back, and buckle up – Bella and her four Bridesmaids are Southern Girls, with big personalities, bigger secrets…and opinions as strong as their cocktails.

A fractured, fractious, high-octane fairy tale, I Wanna Be A F*Cking Princess examines and explodes the stories we’re told about how to be Good Girls…and asks what it means to be Good Women and Good Friends. Local playwright Jenny Connell Davis (Dragon Play, The Psyche Project) works with Ground Floor Theatre to bring this World Premiere to life.

Amy and the Orphans centers around Amy, a woman with Down syndrome, and her siblings who reunite after the death of their father. As the siblings embark on a road trip to their father's funeral, they navigate complex family dynamics, long-held secrets, and differing expectations for Amy's future.
