Operations Manager
Job Summary
Penfold Theatre Company is an award-winning 501c3 nonprofit arts organization that has been producing intimate stories of empathy and hope for over sixteen years. This fall, we are opening a new facility – the first professional theatre venue in Round Rock, Texas! The move will allow us to expand our impact exponentially, and we are seeking passionate new team members to help us launch a new chapter in the company’s history.
The Operations Manager will oversee the programs hosted in our new facility and provide support services that make those programs possible. Reporting to the Producing Artistic Director, the Operations Manager will apply a working knowledge of theatre operations, as well as skills in organization and coordination, to ensure the daily business of the company is running smoothly and scaling for growth.
Responsibilities
Production Management. The Operations Manager oversees the creation of each Penfold production to ensure it meets our standard of excellence. Specifically, the Operations Manager:
- Guides the production team through an established process that includes recruitment, pre-production, rehearsals, performances and strike to ensure the production is completed on time, within budget and with excellence.
- Nurtures a supportive environment and equips the production team to do its best work.
- Liaises between the production team and other Penfold team members.
Tenant Success. The Operations Manager serves as the primary contact for tenants renting the space. Specifically, the Operations Manager:
- Guides the tenant through an established process that includes contracting, payment, box office setup, orientation, load-in, event oversight and load-out to ensure a smooth and successful rental experience.
- Sees that the terms agreed upon in the rental contract are followed and that the venue is left in good working order.
- Liaises between the tenant and other Penfold team members.
Patron Services. The Operations Manager puts into place the team members, systems and materials that facilitate a smooth and delightful patron experience. Specifically, the Operations Manager:
- Enters Penfold and tenant events into the ticketing system.
- Recruits, trains and oversees front of house team members, who work each event.
- Maintains the front of house point of sale stations, including equipment, inventory and reporting.
Facilities. The Operations Manager maintains Penfold’s facility and equipment. Specifically, the Operations Manager:
- Liaises with Penfold’s landlord and ensures Penfold is compliant with its lease.
- Maintains records of the facilities’ physical layout and equipment for easy reference by Penfold staff and tenants.
- Keeps the facility and its equipment in good working order through routine maintenance, repair and replacement.
- Sources new materials and equipment when needed.
Administration. The Operations Manager performs administrative tasks that support Penfold’s people and programs. Specifically, the Operations Manager:
- Maintains bookkeeping to track Penfold’s income and expenses.
- Maintains payroll for employees and contractors, including setup, paychecks, reimbursements and tax filings.
- Renews Penfold’s insurance policies annually.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills. The ideal candidate would have many of these qualifications:
- A college degree or 4+ years of relevant experience
- Experience in production management, stage management, event management, house management and/or facilities management
- Experience operating theatrical lighting and sound equipment
- Experience in bookkeeping, compliance and/or human resources
- Experience managing a team
- Experience with Google Workspace, Quickbooks and/or working in a virtual environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Strong systems thinking skills with the ability to refine and optimize processes
- Service-oriented and kind to patrons and colleagues
- Entrepreneurially minded with desire to grow the organization’s impact

Hours & Compensation
The Operations Manager is a full-time, salaried, exempt employee. The starting salary is $55,000 to $60,000. Benefits offered include health insurance and paid leave. This is not a remote position and requires availability in person as determined by the event schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
