From Idea to Page: A Teatro Vivo Playwright’s Workshop

as part of the Austin Latinx New Play Festival project

 

Teatro Vivo is proud to announce “From Idea to Page: A Teatro Vivo Playwright’s Workshop”. Austin-based playwrights, aspiring playwrights, and writers of all experience levels are invited to participate in a new play workshop facilitated by Mateo Hernandez and Roxanne Schroeder-Arce.

This workshop will meet in person (Austin, TX) for six consecutive Sundays from 10AM to 12PM during the months of January through March. While the facilitators will offer some guidance on writing, for the most part playwrights should bring ideas for a new play and be prepared to write intensively. We are excited for playwrights to write in English, Spanish, and/or indigenous languages. This will be a space where writers are accountable to the group and themselves to begin to create a new play from simply an idea. Teatro Vivo hopes to develop two of the works conceived in this workshop through the Austin Latinx New Play Festival in April, 2024.

 

Participants must be able to commit to all the dates below to participate in the workshop.

 

Session Dates (all Sundays, 10AM - 12PM):

January 28

February 4

February 11

February 18

February 25

March 3 *Optional Office Hours/Individual Work Time

March 10

 

At each session, facilitators and the group will check in with writers on progress. At the final session, all participants will read the full plays or part of the plays. So, March 10 will be extended - 10AM to 2PM. While this workshop is open to all, playwrights should be working on a play that fits Teatro Vivo’s Mission:

Scholarships are available for those with financial need. If you are in need of a scholarship, please indicate that need in your GoogleForm submission.
