OPERA San Antonio is proud to partner with the Opera Guild of San Antonio and the San Antonio Public Library in the continuation of the Explore Opera Summer Apprentice Program. This collaboration will provide an opportunity for up to four young artists to be featured in a free community concert, participate in virtual events, and a special concert video for area school programs. Selected artists will receive virtual coachings with OSA Music Director Francesco Milioto, in-person coachings with OSA General & Artistic Director E. Loren Meeker, and Chorus Master Dottie Randall. A $500 stipend will be awarded to each selected participant.

Application Requirements

  • Artists age 30 and under as of September 1, 2021 are welcome to apply.

  • Artists with, or in pursuit of a Masters in Vocal Performance are preferred. Students in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in voice or recent graduates at the time of application may also apply. 

  • Applicants meeting the above requirements should submit this Google Form by midnight April 4, 2021 with the following required information:

    • Voice Type

    • Resume

    • Headshot

    • Repertoire List (arias, ensembles, musical theatre)

    • Two video links (YouTube or Vimeo preferred)

Summer Apprentice Artist Auditions

      Please submit video performances of contrasting operatic repertoire. These videos should be as current as possible, preferably less than one year old. Videos made with pre-recorded audio tracks are permissible.

      Audition Process

      After the first round of documentation is received, materials will be reviewed and selected artists will be invited to the final round. Invitations to a virtual interview with the audition panel will be sent the week of April 12th. Be prepared to submit additional recordings upon request.

    Artists must be available virtually on the following dates:

  • ●  August 12, 2021 - Video Release Watch Party with the Teen Opera Club of Texas (TBD)

    *Due to the current parameters of the COVID-19 pandemic, all selected artists are asked to be flexible should the need arise to take all coachings online with a virtual adaptation if necessary.
