Job Title: Director of Theatre
REPORts to: Executive Director
Job PURPOSE
THEATRE OPERATION: To manage the theatre financial and artistic operations of the HCAF as directed by the Executive Director and to assist in developing each annual budget for the Theatre Department.
THEATRE EDUCATION: Establish an education schedule for annual classes and instructors.
COORDINATE ADVERTISING: Responsible for ad development and placement for theatre and general HCAF advertisement.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts or equivalent experience
· Three years of successful experience in a theatre leadership or management position
· Ability to manage personnel
· Effective oral and written communication skills
· Three years of successful experience as an educator
· Past experience in graphic art and marketing a plus
General responsibilities
· To manage the operations of theatre business and educational functions and maintain the professional standards of the HCAF with the goal of achieving consistently high-quality programs that are appealing and educational to both the participants and the theatre audience
· Coordinate with the Board of Directors to develop long and short term goals and strategies that continue the tradition of a successful and influential theatre in this community
· Reach out to volunteers in order to increase interest and participation in the HCAF
· Market the HCAF to the fullest extent possible
Specific responsibilities
PERSONNEL:
· Manage and develop current staff per flow chart
· Recruit, negotiate terms and hire or contract personnel for the educational programs
· Recruit, train and oversee theatre volunteers
· Ensure that all contract labor adheres to timelines and schedules
· Ensure Staff and volunteers observe good housekeeping and safety practices before and after events
ADMINISTRATION
· Develop annual theatre department, education department and special events budgets and submit to the Executive Director in a timely manner
· Establish monthly budget targets and procedures to monitor department expenditures and report to the Board of Directors and Executive Director
· Hire directors and designers and maintain communication between them and the theatre.
· Perform other duties as may be necessary to meet mission demands, achieve efficiency of operation or to provide customer service and satisfaction
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
· Establish an Educational Department that maximizes educational aspect of our mission statement
· Identify and exploit all teaching opportunities
· Work with area schools to maximize educational outreach
· Work with the educational staff to create and implement theatre and arts related workshops, classes and camps
· Develop plans for theatre department to support classes in scenic design, costuming, set construction, production management and directing, and playwriting for adults and youth
· Establish on-going relationship with colleges and universities to provide internships
· Establish on-going relationship with local secondary schools
OUTREACH
· Maintain connection with state and national theatre organizations to promote HCAF
· Promote HCAF through presentations to groups, schools and community service organizations
· Establish community awareness
