WAGE RANGE: $500.00 per week

STATUS: Non-Exempt

The San Antonio Symphony invites applications for the Assistant Stage Manager position for the 2018-2019 Season. Reporting to the Stage and Operations Manager, this is a full time seasonal contract spanning from August 27, 2018-June 16, 2018 at $500.00 per week.

JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Stage Manager, under the direction of the Stage and Operations Manager, is responsible for the daily physical operation of the San Antonio Symphony, including staging, load in and load out. He/she is also responsible for moving, acquisition, storage and maintenance of orchestra equipment, whether owned or rented, and management of the stage for all services. The Assistant Stage Manager will have respect for the needs of musicians and will treat their instruments and equipment with care. He/she will help the Stage Manager to insure cost-effective compliance with I.A.T.S.E. local 76 contract and work rules, as well as safety needs. He/she fulfills the responsibilities of the Stage and Operations Manager in her absence, and assists the Stage and Operations Manager when she is present.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 At least two years’ experience with stage operations; working knowledge of stage equipment, maintenance of stage equipment, sound and lights.

  •   Ability to lift more than 60lbs.

  •   Ability to direct stage personnel with authority, efficiency and professionalism.

  •   Ability to work effectively and diplomatically with diverse personalities.

  •   Acute safety consciousness, alert and quick reactions to unexpected and potentially hazardous situations.

  •   Good communication and organizational skills, positive and confident manner.

  •   Valid Texas driver's license, including truck. (CDL not required.)

    JOB DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES:

     Assists the Stage and Operations Manager in supervising the set-up of the orchestra according to the daily schedule and the Collective Bargaining Agreement requirements. This may require communication with the Personnel Manager, conductors, artists, sound and light technicians, stagehands and musicians.

    •   Represents the Symphony in a professional manner. The Assistant Stage Manager is usually one of the first people from the organization to arrive at service locations.

    •   Supervises, in conjunction with the Stage and Operations Manager, the activities of stagehands at all service locations, and of the sound and light technicians at all venue locations. In the Stage and Operations Manager's absence, coordinates crew calls as well as monitors and reports the crew hours for payment.

  •   Directs stage operations for performances when the Stage and Operations Manager is not present, "calling" the sequence of each performance, ensuring that concerts start on time and run smoothly.

  •   Drives, travels with or precedes the orchestra equipment truck to all services in and out of town. Arrives early enough to ensure that the concert site is ready for the orchestra no later than one hour before the scheduled start of the service.

  •   Assists the Stage and Operations Manager with the moving, storage, inventory and maintenance of all Symphony-owned equipment. Whenever necessary, assists the Stage and Operations Manager with truck rental for transportation of orchestra equipment, and drives the truck as needed.

  •   Works closely with the Stage Manager and Operations Manager to ensure safe, efficient, cost-effective and smooth operations.

  •   Performs other duties as assigned by the Stage and Operations Manager or the Personnel Manager.
