Press Conference & Town Hall Meeting

(via Proyecto Teatro)Latino Arts Organizations to Hold a Press Conference & Town Hall Meeting to Discuss the Impact of City’s New Artists Access Program and PARD’s Breach of Contract

Resident Artists at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican-American Cultural Center (ESB-MACC) will hold a Press Conference on Monday, January 22nd at 1pm at Council Chambers; and a Town Hall on Monday, January 22nd, 2018 at 7pm at the ESB-MACC to provide the public with a LARP (Latino Arts Residency Program) report and to discuss the long-term structural impact and the concerning implications of the new Austin Artists Access program.

The Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC) was approved in the 1998 bond package to specifically support the development of a municipal cultural center with a defined and focused mission to preserve and promote Mexican-American arts and culture and to recognize this community’s contributions to the city.

The new Artists Access Program, in response to the City Council approved arts omnibus, was conceived without community stakeholder input and launched without proper outreach to minority communities.

The ESB-MACC, along with Austin’s ethnically-focused cultural centers will become vulnerable to gentrification by long-term and systemic displacement of its artists, arts organizations, and communities.
