Funding Appeal: Help American Berserk Theatre Create a Small Theatre Space at Hideout Studios
Hi, we’re Rob Yoho, Kaci Beeler, and Curtis Luciani of American Berserk Theatre. We're an independent theatre company here in Austin, TX, that is currently focused on making new original work using Austin artists and creators.
We're raising funds so that we can convert the back rehearsal room of Hideout Studios on East 6th Street into a rentable small theatre venue. That's right. We like to see it used as a raw and intimate theatre space. With a stage, lights, sound …
You know, all the basic components to put on a little show, or a workshop version of a big show, or new work, or community work, or whatever kind of show you like, really, as long as it fits in our cozy space.
Right now, The renowned Hideout Theatre (in Austin since 1999) rents these studios for classes, rehearsals, and workshops. It's a lovely space in East Austin where a lot of inspiring work is created every week by hundreds of artists, but we both know it could house a lot more if it had the ability to be used as an intimate theater too. (Learn more about The Hideout Theatre here.)
We want to raise a little money to do this right. Good planning, good lights and sound, a nice flexible stage set-up, some paint, some decor that makes you feel like you’re in a space where something interesting might happen. And this space would not only be for the use of The Hideout Theatre and American Berserk Theatre, but also any individual, group, or company that is interested in using an intimate, DIY, funky, artsy space for their work.
