Rude Mechs Announce RUDE STUDIOS Working Space, Available for Rental Over Upcoming 18 Months

We have a place to make stuff!

Hi friend,

We wanted you to be the first to know that Rude Mechs has new digs and they are open to the Austin arts community!

As most of you know, after 18 years, Rude Mechs had to leave The Off Center behind in May. While we were in the midst of moving, we were also negotiating a lease on 5,000 sf of temporary rehearsal space inside the Austin American-Statesman warehouse. And we got it!

We are calling our new digs Rude Studios. The address is 305 S. Congress 78704. We are here for 18 months. And there's plenty of room for sharing. We are thrilled that we can continue to fulfill our longstanding mission of ensuring Austin's filmmakers, visual artists, musicians, dancers, and theatre artists and companies continued access to space for creating their work, and that we can continue to subsidize their work by offering truly affordable rental rates.

Rude Studios is not performance space. The rooms are not suited to that. But readings and workshop events with every small audiences are totally okay.

There are 5 discrete rooms inside the Rude Studios of various shapes and sizes, and degrees of privacy. We hosted an open house last week to show the spaces to the community, to find out what they need most (rehearsal, storage, meeting, maker space), and got their input on how these spaces should be used. The surveys revealed that people most need rehearsal space, and they need it for cheap to free. No huge surprise there.

Rude Studios are ready to be booked. Rates and studio size information is on our website and everything is negotiable if you are a working artist. And if you are interested in sponsoring a studio, please let us know!

All the love,

Lana, Madge, Shawn, Kirk, Thomas, and Alex
for Rude Mechs

P.S.  Come on out to the UT Lab Theatre this weekend to support the amazing tweens and teens showing off their work in Off Center Teens.
