CTX Live Theatre's Dr. David Glen Robinson and Michael Meigs Will Present Awards at AUSTIN CRITICS TABLE, Capital Comedy Club, June 5, 2017

(photo by Xi WEG, Poitiers, via Wikimedia Commons)CTX Live Theatre writers Michael Meigs and Dr. David Glen Robinson will be presenting awards next Monday evening at the Austin Critics Table and subtly celebrating the recognition of on-line reviewers as participants in our dialogue about the arts of Austin and Central Texas. Twenty-five competitive awards will be announced (5 x the 5 categories of Theatre, Design, Dance, Classical Muisic and Visual Art).

The votes are all in, and the honorees have been selected. Given the number of nominees -- in some cases ten or more -- in a sharply reduced number of categories, in some categories there will be shared honors due to ties in the voting.

In addition, each writer has been invited to award a special citation. CTXLT's Dr. Robinson will cite the founder and principal of an Austin dance company and Meigs will address a new category: 'Bilingual and non-English-language narrative theatre.'

By consensus the writers selected four Austin artists for inclusion in the Hall of Fame: Zell Miller III (theatre, spoken word), Katherine Brimberry and Mark L. Smith of Flatbed Press (visual arts), and Kate Warren (dance).

Other special awards are the John Bustin Award for Versatility given to an actor or performer and the Deacon Crain Award for Outstanding Student Work.

This 25th annual celebration of Austin-area arts takes place at the Capital City Comedy Club, 8120 Research Blvd, Austin, TX 78758 on Monday, June 5, from 7 p.m. Admission is free and there's a cash bar (the martini is the unofficial mascot drink of those hard-working arts writers). Austin Chronicle arts editor Robert Faires is the doyen of the group and will be making a number of the presentations.
