Georgetown Palace Theatre Appoints Scott Mohon as Executive Director
The Board of Directors of the Georgetown Palace Theatre is excited to announce Scott Mohon as its new Executive Director. Mohon has worked for theaters across the nation for over 24 years and will bring his talent, excitement and enthusiasm to Georgetown on January 23, 2017. Most recently, Mohon served as Executive Director of Theatre Victoria in Victoria, Texas.
“The Palace is a special place. We looked far and wide for a special candidate and Scott Mohon is that special candidate,” said Palace Board President Art Rodriguez. "Understanding that we need a business manager and fundraiser to bring the hopes and dreams of the Palace community to fruition, Mr. Mohon has proven credentials to lead the Palace into our next period of growth."
As Executive Director of the Palace, Mohon will oversee the business operations of the Palace that entertains thousands on a yearly basis and educates the next generation of actors. Additionally, Mohon will take the reins of a vibrant capital campaign that will add a new education center and performance venue for children – to be known as the Smith Performance Center.
“Coming to a community that believes in the arts and arts education is a dream come true.” Mohon said. “I want to ensure that the Smith Performance Center is available to Georgetown and all of the Central Texas region. After going to UT Austin for my undergraduate degree, settling down in Central Texas now is coming full circle for me.”
Prior to accepting the position at the Palace, Mohon served as an executive or managing director for theaters in New York, Rhode Island, Minnesota and Texas. “From the moment I stepped foot on the Palace campus, I knew that the Palace was a family. I look forward to being a member of the family. This is like coming home for me,” said Mohon.
Mohon was selected after an extensive nationwide search to fill the position vacated by Marissa Austin. The Palace received applications from as far away as California and Canada. Said Rodriguez, “The quality of applicants we received was truly remarkable. While we received many qualified applications, it did not take a long time to see Scott rise to the top of our list. Ultimately, it was satisfying to get the person we wanted for the job.”
Mohon holds a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Texas at Austin.
