New Education Director at Georgetown Palace Theatre: Jonathan A. Young
The Georgetown Palace Theatre welcomes a new Director of Education. In anticipation of the Smith Performance Center, the new Palace education building designed to house its education program and serve as a second performance space, the Palace Theatre embarked on a search for a Director of Education to lead the programming in the new space.
After a nation-wide search, the Palace selected Jonathan A. Young. Jonathan is an Equity actor, director, and voice-artist. Although he was born and raised in Los Angeles, he recently relocated with his wife, Jaimie, and daughter, Josie, from New York City. Jonathan received his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Acting from Brandeis University in Boston and studied Directing and Playwriting at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is certified in hand-to-hand, knife, and rapier combat through the Society of American Fight Directors, received his training in Improv at UCB Theatre New York. While at Brandeis, Jonathan taught undergraduate courses in Improv, Directing, and Suzuki Actor Training and was the Directing Supervisor for all undergraduate-directed shows at Brandeis.
As an actor, Jonathan performed around the country for theatres including the Berkshire Theatre Festival, New York Theatre Alliance, and the Candlelight Pavilion in Los Angeles. He has toured with American Family Theatre, the National Theatre for Children, and New York Dinner Theatre. On television, he has appeared on shows including 30 Rock, MTV's Girl Code, and The Onion Sports Dome and in commercials for Ritz Crackers, Tumi Luggage, and the CBS Sports Network. While in New York City, Jonathan performed at various theatres, winning the Audience Favorite Award and the Winter Forum Award for Best Actor.
Before starting with the Palace, Jonathan served as CEO/CFO and Founder of Foothill Hoops Basketball in Southern California. Foothill Hoops is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation that provides basketball leagues, camps, clinics, and travel teams for athletes ages 3-17.
Arden Trevino, the Palace Interim Executive Director, says, “Jonathan brings to Georgetown a passion and desire to engage and encourage Georgetown youth to explore and expand their unique talents in order to mature into vibrant and confident young adults. We are very fortunate that he has chosen Georgetown to continue serving America’s youth and families.”
