Speak Piece
VISION The Speak Piece Poetry Project is a collective of artists committed to the transformative advancement of middle and high school students in arts and education by teaching Austin's youth to be better readers, writers and thinkers. Speak Piece promotes and empowers young voices through the craft of storytelling and spoken word. By providing workshop, performance, and collaborative opportunities, Speak Piece cultivates student literacy and community leadership. Students who participate in the program have graduated to become critically thoughtful, socially active, and culturally-literate artists.
MISSION STATEMENT To develop the language, comprehension, and presentation skills of Austin's youth through competitive spoken word poetry. To provide a safe space for Austin's youth to express themselves freely, without fear or judgment. To promote the artistic and leadership talents of Austin's youth as they engage with their community.
