Austin Theatre Project is seeking actors with dynamic voices for its upcoming production of Dogfight (Music and Lyrics by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul; Book by Peter Duchan; directed, designed & choreographed by Joshua Denning; Music Direction by David Blackburn.)
It's November 21, 1963. On the eve of their deployment to a small but growing conflict in Southeast Asia, three young Marines set out for one final boys' night of partying, debauchery, and maybe a little trouble. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress whom he enlists to win a cruel bet with his fellow recruits, she rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of compassion. With some of the best new music on the current musical stage, Dogfight begins as a rousing song and dance adventure and ends as an intimate story about finding the beauty and comfort of love in the most unexpected places. ATP is thrilled to present this new musical based on the Warner Brothers film which starred River Phoenix (his last film) and Liv Taylor. Time Out New York calls Dogfight "easily the most delicate, surprising, musically satisfying score since Spring Awakening."
