CHARACTERS
EDDIE WINTHROP: 11 years old. Raised in Portland, Main. Sent to live with his grandparents.
LUKE WINTHROP: in his 50's. Eddie's grandfather. A dairy farmer and town leader.
MABEL WINTHROP: in her 50's. Eddie's grandmother.
ISABEL PERKINS: in her late 40's. Mabel's younger sister.
ALFRED PERKINS: in his 50's. Isabel's husband. A World War I veteran. He owns a small garage.
FELIX STETLER: in his 30's. A government worker from Pennsylvania.
