Tarzan, the musical
by Georgetown Palace Theatre

Dec. 12 - Dec. 14 (2015)

Washed up on the shores of West Africa, an infant boy is taken in and raised by gorillas who name him Tarzan. Apart from striving for acceptance from his ape father, Tarzan's life is mostly monkey business until a human expedition treks into his tribe's territory and he encounters creatures like himself for the first time. Tarzan struggles to navigate a jungle, thick with emotion as he discovers his animal upbringing clashing with his human instincts.

Directed by Ron Watson

Choreography by Jesee Smart

Music Direction by Austin Kimble

Based on Disney's epic animated musical adventure and Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan of the Apes, Tarzan features heart-pumping music by rock legend Phil Collins and a book by TONY Award-winning playwright, David Henry Hwang. High-flying excitement and hits like the Academy Award winning "You'll Be in My Heart" as well as "Son of Man" and "Two Worlds" make Tarzan an unforgettable theatrical experience.

We're looking for a group of adventurous people, ages 10 and up (an exception will be made for Young Tarzan, who can be as young as 8 years old), to help us bring Tarzan swinging on to the stage. In addition to Tarzan, Jane, Kala, Kerchak, Terk and Porter, we need Gorillas, Young Gorillas, Plants, British Explorers, a Leopard, a Large spider, and more. The ensemble will not only be busy, but is going to have an amazing time swinging and playing around on our set. The professionals from Hall and Associates will be helping with the flying once again.

You'll find the character breakdown here.

You'll also find a link to audition etiquette here:

Auditions will be held Dec 12th, 13th, and 14th.

Auditions will consist of singing (either one of the selected sides, see below, or 16 bars from a song of your choice in the style of the show), and then the dance audition on the 14th.

All auditioning should arrive on Monday, December 14th at 7 pm. You will be taught two dance combinations. Please wear clothing you can move in, sneakers or jazz shoes. Everyone who auditions must to come to the dance audition on Monday, as it’s critical we be able to see how everyone moves.

Callbacks will be by invitation only and held Tuesday, 12/15, starting at 6:30 pm.

Auditions are scheduled on-line via the Palace website. You’ll fill out the audition form, conflict calendar, and sign up for a time.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals are scheduled to begin Monday, January 4th. Although if possible, we might have a read through on Dec 21st.  Rehearsals will typically be held Monday through Thursday 7:00-10:00 and Saturday 12:00-5:00.  Since we’re having a shorter rehearsal period than normal, we’ll be distributing the scripts and music as soon casting is done, and asking everyone to be familiar with at least the lyrics by the first rehearsal.

Background checks: Everyone involved with the production must submit to a background check at the Palace's expense.  If you are cast, you'll receive a secure link where you can fill it out. There is no cost to you.

The Georgetown Palace Theatre is 501c3 Non-profit organization. There is no compensation for any of the actors.

We practice color blind casting, so all ages, abilities, gender, and ethnicities are encouraged to participate.

If you have any questions, please email productions@georgetownpalace.com.
