Other Desert Cities
by Wimberley Players

Aug. 08 - Aug. 10 (2015)

The play begins on Christmas Eve 2004 in Palm Springs CA. . A daughter returns home for the first time in 6 years, bearing a manuscript of a memoir, which threatens to reveal secrets that abound in the Wyeth household, and if truths are made public that were formerly withheld, the family's very foundation could crumble.

Every character is smart, quick-witted and deeply flawed. The parents are wealthy, well-connected Republican activists and friends of the Reagan's. Father, Lyman Wyeth, an actor known for his death scenes, has been state GOP chair. Polly, his wife and ferocious protector, is a forceful practitioner of tough love – with her children as well as her free-thinking, alcoholic sister and former screenwriting partner, Silda, now recovering from her latest round of rehab. Liberal daughter Brooke is a novelist who's been going through a rough patch of writer's block and a breakdown that involved a long hospital stint. She's home for the holidays, as is her younger brother, a political TV producer, Trip. And she's brought her manuscript, which tells the story of her beloved, older brother's involvement in the fatal Vietnam War-era bombing of a military recruitment center, his suicide and their parents' responsibility for his actions.

Character Breakdown:

Brooke Wyeth: daughter, Intelligent, tortured, dry-witted. (25-40)

Polly Wyeth: Mother, tough, elegant, forthright and whip-smart. (50-70)

Trip Wyeth: Son, bright, funny, TV producer. (25-35)
