Legally Blonde, the musical
by Georgetown Palace Theatre
Mar. 19 (2016)
Legally Blonde The Musical will take you from the sorority house, to Harvard, to the halls of justice with Broadway's brightest new heroine, Elle Woods. Watch her tackle stereotypes, snobbery, and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. This action-packed musical explodes on the stage with memorable songs and dynamic dances. Equal parts hilarious and heart-warming warming, this musical is so much fun it should be illegal!
The following is from the Legally Blonde auditions page at www.georgetownpalace.com:
From Ron Watson: Friends!! The time of Legally Blonde auditions is nigh, and we can’t wait to see the talent that will be on display. Guiding you along the path for this fast and fun show will be myself directing, MC “Please Cliff, don’t hurt em’!” Clifford Butler music directing, and the indomitable Jessie Drollette stage managing like nobody’s business. In addition, I’m excited to announce that Quinton Weathers will be the choreographer for our show. Quinton runs The Dance Spot studio in Round Rock, and has considerable experience in hip-hop and jazz, which he will be leveraging to help make Legally Blonde a truly unique and energetic experience. Oh, and did I mention that we will have a live band playing the imminently dance-able music, so the audience can get their groove on while they’re loving your performance? Awww yiss…
I think it goes without saying that I am looking for extremely strong leads to helm this production. If you are considering Elle Woods, you will have to be a triple threat to be competitive. (i.e., sing, dance, and act like a boss) The importance of the relationships between the characters, particularly Elle and Emmett and Elle and Paulette, cannot be overstated. I love many things about this show, but the song “Take it Like a Man” between Elle and Emmett is one of those, “Oh, hey, we like each other!” discovery moments that I absolutely adore in theater. I teared-up a bit the first time watching it because it reminds me of getting together with my wife. You will do the same to the audience by being super-like-able and adorable and awesome. OMG the feels!

In order to get in on this action, here are the basics of what we will need from you at auditions:
Vocals (by appointment)
At vocal auditions we will have an accompanist ready to play for you from among the following pre-selected vocal selections below. These are from the show and if you are considering a specific role, you must sing that side. We may ask you to sing another one as well, though we’ll give you a chance to learn the section as necessary. Cliff has labeled the measures he wants to hear below.

Dance
Dance auditions will be on the 20th and Quinton will be running the show. We want to get a sense of your dance ability to see how you might fit into the show. Wear dance clothes you can move in. Ladies bring character shoes and jazz shoes. Guys bring jazz shoes or sneakers you can dance in. Be ready to learn a short dance sequence in groups. For more complex parts, Quinton may do a more involved sequence after the initial piece is done.
Callbacks
Callbacks will be by invite only, based on what my team sees at the initial auditions. We will likely sing more and run sides from the show to see how folks mesh. This show is cute and funny, so we’ll be looking at comedic timing, relationship matches, and the overall look of the show.
Sign-ups are for vocal audition times and are available through the sign-up form on the web site. Good luck and I look forward to seeing you!
The Georgetown Palace Theatre pracitices color blind casting and does not descriminate. All volunteers (actors, crew, etc.) are asked to submit a background check (at no cost). Participation will be stalled until said background check has been competed.
