Changing Lives Youth Ensemble
by Changing Lives Youth Theatre Ensemble
May. 11 - May. 12 (2016)
Program Overview
Fall: The ensemble learns about social justice issues, specifically violence prevention in our schools and communities. The ensemble learns how to stand up as peer leaders and allies in their communities. They also build arts-based skills such as acting, improvisation, movement, and dramatic writing. We devise and create an original play that addresses issues like bullying, healthy relationships, and sexual harassment.
Time commitment: We rehearse bi-weekly, Tuesdays & Thursdays 7:00-9:00 pm at Creative Action (2921 E. 17th St. Bldg. B).
Spring: We rehearse the play, then tour it to middle schools in the Austin area. Last year we performed to over 3,500 students & adults! We also perform the play at various community events. We also take fieldtrips (generally during rehearsal time) to participate in community events, workshops, and attend performances.
Time commitment: We continue our bi-weekly rehearsals and start to perform in schools and around the community. There are some additional weekend rehearsal commitments.
Parents/Guardians are responsible for transporting their child to all rehearsals and performances.
Ensemble members are paid a stipend in December & May for their work in the community.
