Fiddler on the Roof

Winner of nine Tony Awards when it debuted in 1964, Fiddler on the Roof is the brainchild of Broadway legends, Jerome Robbins and Harold Prince; songwriters, Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick; and bookwriter, Joseph Stein. Touching audiences worldwide with its humor, warmth and honesty, this universal show is a staple of the musical theatre canon.
Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof's universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.
The show features a star turn in Tevye, among the most memorable roles in musical theatre. MTI's comprehensive choreographic guide allows productions to retain original director/choreographer, Jerome Robbins', classic staging. With iconic and beloved songs such as "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were a Rich Man" and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," Fiddler on the Roof is the perfect mix of audience-pleasing humor and heart.

*Note for CYT Students:
Students auditioning for our Spring CYT productions (Peter Pan or Anne of Green Gables) may have that audition used as their audition for Fiddler on the Roof as well and do not need to attend the Fiddler on the Roof audition nights separately.
However, students will still be required to attend the dance call and callbacks. (Callbacks will be posted at a later date, and not everyone will be requested at Callbacks.)
AUDITION SLOT DETAILS
To audition for Fiddler on the Roof, please follow the steps below:
- Create a Family Account (if you haven’t already).
Click the head icon in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. - Once logged into your Family Account, click “Tools” next to your name.
From the drop-down menu, select “Auditions.”
From there, you will be able to sign up for or edit your audition slot.
This step ensures you are registered in our system for callback distribution, casting, and communication. - Prepare your audition materials.
The role(s) you are interested in will determine what you need to prepare and what videos you may need to submit. No monologues will be provided.
Audition Materials (All Roles):
- Prepare a one-minute cut of a song of your choice
- Prepare a monologue of your choice, no longer than one minute
- Please do NOT sing a song from the show
*Actors auditioning for any role will also be considered for the ensemble unless otherwise indicated on their audition form.

CALLBACKS
Callbacks will take place at the CYT Studio on March 29 from 6:00–9:30 PM.
- College students who are out of town may submit video and/or Zoom callbacks.
- A specialized dance call may be included as part of the callback process for select ensemble and principal roles.
- Callbacks will posted at a later date – we will not need to see every actor at Callbacks.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND
- Auditions are open to individuals ages 8 and up.
- All roles require strong singing and acting skills, as well as dance ability.
- These roles require significant memorization and a strong time commitment throughout the production.
- Theatre is an imaginative art form, not a literal one. We aim to cast a diverse group of actors.
- Auditions are open to anyone who agrees to CCT’s Code of Conduct and Behavior Standards (linked HERE).
- This is a non-Union production, and there is no compensation for roles.
CAST REHEARSALS
The detailed rehearsal schedule is posted HERE.
General rehearsal times include:
- Some Saturdays: 10:00 AM–4:00 PM
- Some Saturday evenings: 5:30–8:30 PM
- Tuesdays/Thursdays: 6:30–9:30 PM
Please note: Not all cast members will be called to every rehearsal.
When completing your audition form, be sure to list all conflicts.

**To successfully produce a community theatre show of this scale, we truly need all hands on deck! CCT is a fun opportunity not only to perform together, but also to work on the show as a cast family. If you have family members or friends interested in helping behind the scenes, please let us know!

Tevye
Tevye The likeable, hard-working, pious dairyman who always tries to see the positive side of life. He is a proud patriarch and father of five daughters, closely raised according to the old scriptures. Gender: male Vocal range top: F4 Vocal range bottom: Ab2
Golde
Tevye's strong-willed wife who wishes for her daughters to have good husbands and live easier than she and Tevye. Gender: female Vocal range top: Eb5 Vocal range bottom: A3
Tzeitel
Tevye's eldest daughter, who is madly in love with Motel. She is loyal to her family but typically challenges the town's traditions. Gender: female Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: B3
Hodel
Tevye's second eldest daughter, who becomes involved with Perchik. She eventually leaves Anatevka to join Perchik in Siberia. Gender: female Vocal range top: E5 Vocal range bottom: B3
Chava

Shprintze

Bielke

Yente

Motel

Perchik
The outspoken student and visitor to Anatevka, who constantly challenges the traditions of the town. He eventually falls in love with Hodel. Gender: male Vocal range top: E4 Vocal range bottom: B2
Lazar Wolf

Avram

Russian military official stationed near Anatevka who knows the villagers well, however he has superficial relationships with the villagers. Gender: male Age: 35 to 45
Fyedka
A strong, young Russian soldier who sees past his military obligations and falls in love with Chava. He challenges Tevye's imposed silence. Gender: male
